Aston Villa chief Monchi set to part ways after two years amid turbulent times
originally appeared on The Sporting News
Aston Villa are in deep waters given their performance this season as they are yet to register a win across any competitions whilst goals have also dried up.
However, the issues haven't remained limited to their on-field performances as club president for football operations, Monchi is all set to leave the Premier League outfit after more than two years of association as per Fabrizio Romano's recent report.
The Spaniard, who has overseen five transfer windows during his tenure at the club was responsible for making some exceptional deals which helped them reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season.
Monchi faced several challenges due to financial regulations imposed by the FA and also UEFA and therefore Villa could hardly spend anything in this summer transfer window.
Villa have raised around £285m on player sales since the summer of 2024 to comply with the rules to limit their spending power.
They let go of players like Douglas Luis, Tim Iroegbunam, and Omari Kellyman due to pressure from PSR and last summer they were also forced to sell their women's team.

Despite all of that, UEFA's squad cost regulations have blocked further spending particularly in relation to the club's wage bill which made things difficult for Villa in their squad building this summer.
They could only make two permanent signings this summer – Marc Bizot and Evann Guessand along with free agent Victor Lindelof.
Aston Villa are off to their worst start in the Premier League in 28 years
Villa under Emery has been a exceptional team as they reached the Europa League semifinals followed by achieving Champions League quarterfinal spot in consecutive seasons.
However, amidst all their financial issues they have struggled this season, registering only three points after five Premier League games and have dropped to 18th spot on the points table, enduring their worst start in English top flight in the last 28 years.
The chances of winning a domestic cup have also reduced with their elimination from the Carabao Cup against Brentford.
In all this chaos, Emery is all set to lose his closest ally at Aston Villa in Monchi and there are already murmurs about Emery getting sacked if he fails to deliver in the next few games.
Villa are still winless after they failed to hold onto their 1-0 lead against 10-men Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the weekend.
Even goalscoring has been a major problem for Villa as they have only scored two goals across competitions this season with Harvey Elliott and Matty Cash being the only two goalscorers.
These are alarming signs for a team that finished sixth in the Premier League last season and with Villa also featuring in the UEFA Europa League this season, Emery and his men desperately need a turnaround in form.
The Villans will host Serie A outfit Bologna in their Europa League opener on Friday, September 26 at the Villa Park followed by a league fixture against Fulham on Sunday.
