Sean O’Malley sees path to fight Cory Sandhagen for title at UFC White House

Sean O’Malley could have a huge fight on his hands in 2026 if the cards fall just right.

Currently No. 4 at 135 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, O’Malley is on the outside looking in of the bantamweight title picture having suffered back-to-back losses to current champion Merab Dvalishvili. Up next for Dvalishvili, he defends his title against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 320 on Oct. 4, and O’Malley has good reason for Sandhagen to pull off the upset.

If O’Malley can get back in the win column soon, he foresees a future where he gets to take on Sandhagen in a championship bout and at UFC White House, no less.

“The White House card, Cory goes out there and wins, I beat whoever’s next, that’s interesting,” O’Malley said on his BrO’Malley Show podcast. “But regardless, I want to fight within the next four or five months, whatever it is, and then I’ll also be ready for that because they said it could be June, it could be International Fight Week. They said it could be July. So if I can get one in early next year or end of this year, one of the two, count me in. I want to be on that card.

“Being on the Sphere card, being on the White House card, these are just legendary moments. They’re once in a lifetime f*cking moments.”

As of now, the UFC White House lineup is strictly theoretical, though superstars Conor McGregor and Jon Jones have frequently lobbied to be part of the event as well as several fighters on the roster that are actually active. This past Saturday, UFC CEO Dana White unveiled renders showing what the UFC White House setup could potentially look like.

O’Malley hopes to be considered and he knows his chances of landing a title shot at the White House increase exponentially if there’s a new bantamweight champion heading into that event.

“I definitely would absolutely love to be on that card,” O’Malley said. “Cory vs. Merab, I’m so f*cking curious, I’m so curious how that fight plays out. Part of me feels like Merab’s going to go out there and do kind of what he did to me, grab a hold of him, wrestle, takedown, get up, wrestle, takedown, just kind of stay on him. Then part of me is like, Cory’s hungry. Cory wants it. He’s going to find a way to win.”
