A lifelong tarot devotee, Pamela Love has officially entered the game herself with the publication of her own book and deck, “The Infinite Door: A Tarot Deck and Guide Book.”

“I’ve been reading tarot since I was about 14, and it’s been a huge inspiration for me since then,” Love said Friday evening, from outside her launch party at Bookmarc. 

“I was being sent to summer camp and I was really annoyed about it. I didn’t want to go and my mom said, ‘OK, let’s get some books at the bookstore. You’ll have some stuff to keep you busy.’ And I saw this box, this yellow box, and I was like, ‘what is this?’” Love recalls. “And my mom bought it, and I went away to camp in Georgia in the mountains and I spent the summer learning how to read tarot and practicing on my bunk mates. And I’ve been inspired by it ever since.”

Love, who is now based in Los Angeles, had long used tarot as inspiration in her jewelry line.

“The imagery of various decks have been a fascination of mine and a huge inspiration in my jewelry,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to do my own deck. This project took many iterations before it finally became a reality. Ever since I started the brand, it had been a dream of mine [to do a tarot book]. And finally, it was right before COVID, I sort of had the idea that I wanted to go for it and it was like a five-year endeavor.”

For those new to tarot, Love suggests starting out by simply flipping through the guidebook.

“The best thing to do is just dive in. You shuffle the cards, start pulling cards that mean something to you, or pull what you feel called to pull,” she said. “And I just think the best way to learn is to explore.”
