Damian Lillard has been one of the most prominent point guards in the NBA for quite some time. However, during last season's playoffs, he suffered a torn Achilles—an injury that not only ended his postseason run but also marked the beginning of a long recovery process.

“Midway through the first quarter of Game 4, Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard exhibited the telltale signs of an Achilles tear when he collapsed to the floor and immediately grabbed his left lower leg and ankle. He was clearly in pain and appeared to look around as if surprised by whatever just took him out,” ESPN’s Stephania Bell wrote.

Then came a surprising twist in the offseason. The Bucks decided to release Lillard, making him a free agent. The veteran guard ultimately chose to return home to the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Nine-time NBA All-Star Damian Lillard agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, sources told ESPN on Thursday. Lillard's deal includes a player option in 2027-28 and a no-trade clause,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

During his introductory press conference, Lillard provided an update on his recovery progress.

“It can feel like you're not having much growth and then, after a couple of weeks, it'll be like, oh man, I'm walking comfortable,” he said.

In a recent video, Lillard was seen working out with streamer Speed, where he offered a rough timeline for his return.

“Sh*t, probably the start of next season. That Achilles, you can’t fuk around with that. I just got to get all the way right,” Lillard told Speed.

Trail Blazers fans will need to be patient as Lillard continues his long road to recovery. While he won't be on the court this season, he’ll still be around to support the team from the sidelines.

Once fully healthy, Lillard will be out to prove he still has what it takes. After a year away from the game, there’s no doubt he’ll be eager to remind everyone why he's one of the league's best.
