The Atlanta Braves just finished a disappointing season, and now are ready to prepare for the offseason. If they want to bounce back next year, they’ll need to make at least one splash.

Bleacher Report’s Erik Beatson has a prediction that will definitely be a splash, as he believes the Braves will pursue San Diego Padres star pitcher Dylan Cease to create a 1-2 punch with Spencer Strider.

“Regardless of those two down statistics, Cease is still a quality starter who will have teams jumping at the chance to bring him on-board this off-season…The Braves, out of the playoffs in consecutive seasons, feel like the best potential landing spot for a team that needs more depth in the starting rotation to go along with Spencer Strider,” Beatson wrote.

Cease did ok this year, starting 33 MLB games, the most in the league, and got 215 strikeouts, He also has a 4.55 ERA and a record of 8-12, but that’s not necessarily all his fault.

A change in scenery could help with those bad numbers, and if he could keep up his good numbers in being available and striking batters out, the Braves would love to have him.

Beatson ended his article with a prediction that the Braves would offer a $160 million deal, just a bit higher than his Spotrac evaluation. If Cease is smart, he’ll take that deal.
