Jordan Brand to Open First World of Flight U.S. Store in Philadelphia

The Jordan Brand will open its first U.S. retail store on Oct. 10 in Philadelphia.

The World of Flight, the name of the basketball-skewed concept, will be located at 1617 Walnut Street in an historic Beaux Arts building constructed in the early 1900s. It will join other global flagships in Mexico City, Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo and Milan.

World of Flight is designed to represent the pinnacle for the Jordan Brand and will serve as a destination retail experience, offering community events, exclusive product drops and the broadest available assortment of Jordan Brand footwear and apparel, the company said.

Philadelphia was chosen as the brand’s first U.S. location because of the city’s connection to Michael Jordan and the game of basketball. It was the place where Jordan played his final NBA game in 2003 and is also home to Jordan Brand athletes Jalen Hurts and Jared McCain. It’s also the city where the first Jordan Wings Scholars were awarded scholarships, a program that has since expanded to provide scholarships to more than 4,000 students globally.

“As Jordan Brand enters its next era of greatness, we do so with an eye for furthering our connection to our community. World of Flight is a direct portal to our brand and represents the pinnacle of basketball culture,” said Sarah Mensah, president of Jordan Brand. “Opening our first World of Flight door in the United States in Philadelphia, where Michael Jordan played his last game and Jalen Hurts is redefining greatness on the football field, is emblematic of the stories, legacy and achievements we continue to create and uplift.”

The company, which is part of Nike, said additional World of Flight locations are planned in key cities across the country, but did not provide details.

The store will open at 10 a.m. on Oct. 10 and will feature a public Jordan Brand block party beginning at 4 p.m.
