Vestiaire Collective launches carbon credits from circular fashion
Vestiaire Collective is the first resale platform to launch carbon credits from circular fashion. The luxury resale platform’s new initiative issues credits that quantify emissions prevented when consumers purchase pre-loved fashion instead of buying new. This approach is based on a rigorous methodology, which was independently developed by Inuk and certified by AmSpec2. It supports the transition to a low-carbon economy by unlocking funding for climate solutions through the issuance of carbon credits, each representing one ton of CO2 avoided or removed from the atmosphere. {Fashionista inbox}
Ralph Lauren drops net-zero emissions target
Ralph Lauren is ditching its target to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, saying it will instead double down on more concrete, nearer-term climate commitments. The company said its focus will be on rolling five-year targets to curb greenhouse-gas emissions in line with global ambitions to cap atmospheric heating at levels that avoid a climate crisis. On Oct. 1, Dr. Jane Goodall died of natural causes at 91. A week before her death, she spoke to Vogue Business about the importance of empathy, her unexpected jewelry collaboration with Brilliant Earth, what humans can learn from the animals she dedicated her life to and how she hoped to be remembered. Fashion for Good launched “Beyond50 Denim: Combining Cottonized Hemp and Green Chemistry,” a project accelerating the use of hemp as an alternative to conventional cotton in denim. The project combines SEFF’s Nano-Pulse™ cottonized hemp fibers and FIBRE52™’s proprietary chemistry formulations with soft handfeel to show that hemp-based denim can match or even surpass cotton.
