What’s wrong with Arch Manning?

Texas quarterback Arch Manning struggled against Florida on the road on Saturday during his team’s 29-21 loss.

While Manning obviously isn’t headed to the bench any time soon, some may be wondering… what’s wrong with Manning right now? Why is he struggling against tougher competition like Ohio State and Florida?

Why Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell didn’t use his timeouts against Michigan

Well, the best answer for why Manning is struggling probably just has to do with the fact that this is his first season as a full-time starter. He’s looked good while playing smaller opponents this season but has struggled against Power 5 defenses. That’s not a huge shock for a guy in his first year as a starter.

It’s also possible that Manning is a step behind his uncles, Peyton and Eli, in terms of his future football ceiling right now. His last name was never going to automatically guarantee him a spot in the NFL, after all. He may well get there, but he’s charting his own path to success. Nobody knows where Arch Manning ends up right now.

Again, Manning’s story is largely unwritten right now. Sure, Saturday’s Florida loss is yet another concerning set of reps for a player many thought could go first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. It’s not the end-all, be-all, however.

As the odds for Manning to stay in school for the 2026 season only grow higher, the patience for his development needs to expand a bit, too. He deserves time to figure things out as Texas’ schedule gets harder. However, it’s fair to assume that more rough games against some of college football’s better defenses may await the young Manning.
