Jim Thwaites: Man United coaches are raving about their Pedri-like midfielder – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United academy’s midfield gem has caught the eye of Ruben Amorim.

United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland was engineered by their direct approach, as Amorim instructed Lammens to find the forwards with long passes. The Belgian attempted 33 long passes against the newly-promoted side.

This has been a trend under Amorim, who prefers to bypass the midfield to get into the final third. However, this also means United rarely control the tempo of the game. In his defence, the Red Devils aren’t blessed with many technically gifted midfielders.

Meanwhile, United’s youth teams are starting to produce a number of promising midfield talents. One such name is Jim Thwaites.

According to CentreDevils, Thwaites trained with the first team last Friday on the back of his excellent performances at youth level this season.

It is claimed that United see the 17-year-old as “one of their best technical talents in the academy at the moment.”

Amorim and his staff have also been left impressed with Thwaites. The report adds: “Staff across the youth departments often rave about him in training and his performances in the games match it.”

It is believed the United prodigy plays like Barcelona midfielder Pedri. The press-resistant Englishman is capable of breaking lines with ease and possesses exceptional vision and close-control.

Pedri is undoubtedly operating on a different level at Barcelona, but Thwaites has all the traits to become a similar presence with the ball at his feet for United in the long run.

Shea Lacey is another academy sensation to have featured in first-team training this season.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming first-team stars have been impressed by Lacey’s technical level.

Known for his ball-carrying and link-up play, the right-winger has been tipped to make his senior debut for United sooner rather than later.
