Saquon Barkley says Jalen Hurts drew up his 47-yard TD catch

Saquon Barkley says Jalen Hurts drew up his 47-yard TD catch

If we’ve learned nothing else about Nick Sirianni during his tenure as Philadelphia Eagles head coach, we’ve learned a few things that can’t be denied about his acumen. Most aren’t incriminating.

He’s an extraordinary leader of men. He cares about his team, his responsibility, and the city he coaches in. He’s also better than he’s given credit for being. Some have said he’s carried by an elite organization and roster, but let’s be frank. Coaches have lost with more and less.

With Vic Fangio, Shane Steichen, and Kellen Moore by his side, he led his team to the Super Bowl. Things didn’t go as well when he had Brian Johnson, Sean Desai, and Matt Patricia.

Did Saquon Barkley throw Kevin Patullo under the bus?

Loyal… We left that one out. Nick Sirinni is fiercely loyal. He loves his players, his teachers, and his assistants.

That loyalty has led to his decision to heckle the Indianapolis Colts’ fans for their organization’s decision to fire Frank Reich. It’s also why Kevin Patullo is now his highest offensive assistant.

Coach Patullo has been part of this Eagles organization for as long as Coach Sirianni has. Following Moore’s exit, he was promoted to the offensive coordinator’s chair. The jury is still out on how we should grade the job he is doing.

He’s had good showings. Week 4’s second-half performance, for instance, but more often than not, the Eagles’ offense has been stagnant, unimaginative, and underperforming. Then, we saw a wrinkle. How about that wheel route to Saquon Barkley during the second half?

Hold those horses. According to Saquon Barkley, that one came from Jalen Hurts’ imagination, not the offensive coordinator.

First things first. Since his arrival, Saquon Barkley has exuded nothing but class and professionalism. He would never intentionally throw anyone under the bus, but that’s kind of what he did here.

We’ve all heard that Patullo’s offense lacks imagination and creativity. What are we supposed to make of one of the most exciting plays of the day coming from something Jalen Hurts drew up in the sand?

Coach Patullo has never been a play caller, so there’s a part of all of us that says, ‘Be patient, and this will work.’ Stop us if you’ve heard this before, though. Eagles fans and the Philadelphia media lack patience.

Being 4-1 helps ease some of the tension. Still, this offense is home to too much talent to endure these prolonged droughts. The Eagles have yet to put together four complete quarters. To reach football’s biggest game again, they’re going to have to. Otherwise, we’ll be discussing a ton of ‘what-ifs’ at season’s end.
