“I’m sure…” – Gilberto Silva makes prediction about Estevao

When you reach a two week international break, the last thing you saw on the pitch for your club is bound to be the lasting memory through that long period until your team is back in action again.

Fortunately for Chelsea fans, that memory was about as good as they get – youngster Estevao Willian sliding in at the back post to score in the 97th minute and hand the Blues a win over Liverpool.

It’s really brought him to the attention of the wider Premier League watching public, and his double for Brazil on international duty yesterday has compounded the feeling that we’re witnessing something special.

Former Arsenal and Brazil midfielder Gilberto Silva certainly thinks so. He spoke to GiveMeSport today with some really excited quotes about the youngster’s progress:

“I believe he’s going to be a very top player. He’s got the talent. I believe now he is going to get more mature. The maturity of moving to a different country will be so important for him to change experience

“A different league, experiencing a different type of competition, a high-level competition, in Europe, against the best players in the world, will be important for his maturity and improvement.

“I’m sure he’s going to be a top, top player. Not only for Chelsea, but in the world.”

Estevao must continue to be treated carefully

Silva is right – the talent is obvious, it’s all about Estevao’s adaptation now. And that seems to be going well. He’s been introduced slowly to first team action by Enzo Maresca, and the kid seems to be very mature and grown up. We’re not worried about him going out any partying all the time – although maybe those are famous last words.
