Red Sox reactions: Another steal of home, 15 hits, alert baserunning leads to win

CLEVELAND — Instant reactions from the Red Sox’ 13-3 win over the Guardians at Progressive Field on Sunday:

1) Alert baserunning by rookie Kristian Campbell in the second inning put the Red Sox ahead 2-0. With Campbell at third base and one out, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a shallow 252-foot fly ball to center field. Campbell initially didn’t attempt to tag up. But he sprinted home when cutoff man Carlos Santana was unable to catch center fielder Angel Martínez’s high throw.

Santana quickly picked it up but his throw home was too late as Campbell dived across the plate headfirst.

2) Campbell doubled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on Rafaela’s 329-foot sac fly to center field, making it 3-0 Boston. The 22-year-old also ripped a two-run single with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to make it 6-0.

3) Jarren Duran appeared to get into it with a fan in between the top and bottom of the seventh inning. Red Sox coaches and players came out of dugout and Duran had to be held back as he shouted back at the fan.

4) It wasn’t a straight steal of home like the one Jarren Duran had Saturday. But Romy Gonzalez stole home on a double steal in the fifth inning to make it 7-0. Campbell stole second on catcher Bo Naylor. Gonzalez then beat out second baseman Daniel Schneemann’s throw to the plate.

5) Brayan Bello made his second start. The 25-year-old righty pitched 6 innings and allowed three runs, six hits and three walks while striking out four.

6) Lefty basher Rob Refsnyder put the Red Sox ahead 1-0 in the second inning with a 361-foot line drive homer to left field. It left his bat at 111.5 mph.

7) Jarren Duran entered the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader 3-for-32 against left-handed pitchers this season. But he had six hits in eight at-bats against left-handed pitchers the past two games. That includes going 3-for-3 against Guardians southpaw Logan Allen in Sunday’s win.

He went 4-for-6 with an RBI.

8) Rafael Devers blasted his fourth homer in the sixth inning to make it 9-0. He went 5-for-13 with two homers, a double and two walks in three games this series.

9) Ceddanne Rafaela had a mammoth three-run homer in the seventh inning to make it 12-3. He hit it 406 feet with a 108.4 mph exit velocity. Rafaela homered, doubled and drove in five runs.

10) Boston won the three-game series 2-1 to improve to 16-14 on the season.

11) The Red Sox will have Monday off. They then play three games in Toronto. Garrett Crochet will start the series opener Tuesday. Lucas Giolito (left hamstring strain) will return from the IL to pitch Wednesday. Tanner Houck is in line to start Thursday.
