Georgina Chapman Embraces Dark Glamour in Sheer Dress at DKMS Gala

Georgina Chapman gave dark glamour some floral touches for her attire to the 19th annual DKMS Gala on Tuesday night in New York City.

The Marchesa cofounder styled a dress with an asymmetric neckline, featuring a loose strap with floral appliqués cascading down the bodice and skirt of the dress. Crafted in black fabric, the dress incorporated floral embellishments throughout.

The silhouette of the dress included such design elements as a sweetheart neckline with a cinched waist and flowing skirt. Floral appliqués and embellishments were featured on the dress in equal measure, with ornate embroidery dominating the garment atop the semi-sheer fabric.

Chapman maintained the dark glamour approach to her attire, adding peep-toe black heels to her look and accessorizing with a black clutch. The designer’s blond hair was styled with a slight side part, and her makeup included highlights like bold brows, smokey eyes and a touch of color with a glossy pink lip.

Defined by Victorian inspiration with gothic elements throughout, the dark glamour trend saw a major rise in popularity on the 2024 red carpet. Several high-profile stars embraced the style, including Zoe Saldaña, Lady Gaga and more.

But the trend’s been revitalized as of late, with Riley Keough styling a dark glamour-inspired Chanel look at the “Jay Kelly” premiere in September and more recently with Princess Beatrice in a design from the defunct British brand The Vampire’s Wife at the Art of Wishes Gala on Monday night in London.

The dark glamour trend takes the ubiquitous little black dress and elevates the wardrobe staple with Victorian-inspired elements and embellishments reminiscent of romantic designs — an ideal look for the fall season, especially October.

Featuring high-profile guests like Coco Jones, the annual DKMS gala is a fundraising event hosted by the international nonprofit organization with a mission to fight blood cancer. The event featured a dinner, entertainment, registration for donors, patient stories, an auction and more.
