The Tennessee Titans are kicking off on-field preparations for their Week 7 matchup with the New England Patriots and welcomed back a familiar face to the sidelines on Wednesday, designating T’Vondre Sweat to return from injured reserve (IR).
The procedural move opened his 21-day practice window, making him potentially eligible to suit up this weekend.
With the unit already playing well and showing steady improvement throughout the season, Sweat’s return could give the unit even more of a boost. While Shy Tuttle and James Lynch have held up in relief, Sweat is an imposing figure in the middle of the defense, whose presence could help take some pressure off Jeffery Simmons and Sebastian Joseph-Day.
Sweat has suffered through a rough start to the 2025 season, battling abdominal injuries, a tonsillectomy, and an ankle injury. After missing the majority of training camp and all of the preseason, Sweat injured his ankle against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and has missed the past five games.
Now that he is set to return, he has a chance to change some of the narrative that has developed over the beginning stages of the 2025 season, questioning whether the Titans made a mistake drafting him in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Tennessee ignored some red flags when selecting him in the draft. And although those appeared behind him after a solid rookie campaign where he flashed athleticism and dominating potential on top of his run-stuffing prowess, many of those questions returned as he was sidelined, dealing with injuries during camp.
This will be a health situation to monitor this week as Tennessee takes to the field ahead of their battle with the Patriots.
