Jovantae Barnes, Keontez Lewis to sit out vs. South Carolina

The Oklahoma Sooners need a bounce-back game this week on the road against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and they’re going to be without a pair of key players in this game.

Starting wide receiver Keontez Lewis will be out this week after starting the first six games of the season for the Sooners. Without Lewis, the Sooners will rely more on Javonnie Gibson, JerMichael Carter, Zion Kearney, and Ivan Carreon.

Also missing this week will be running back Jovantae Barnes. Barnes has been a key rotational runner for the Sooners, especially on passing downs. Tory Blaylock led Sooners running backs in snaps last week against Texas and has been the Sooners’ best running back this season. Beyond Blaylock, the Sooners will turn to Xavier Robinson and Jaydn Ott for snaps.

Defensive back Kendel Dolby will also miss this week against the Gamecocks. Dolby played just four snaps last Saturday against the Longhorns.

The offensive line is relatively healthy despite missing Troy Everett, Jacob Sexton, and Jake Taylor. However, Logan Howland, who has started games for Oklahoma this season and been a key rotational tackle, is doubtful for this week.

Here’s a look at the full SEC availability report for Oklahoma vs. South Carolina.
