Shoes for a Cure Breast Cancer Fundraiser in Miami: Info, Details


Shoes for a Cure is making a splash in Miami Design District this weekend to raise money for breast cancer research.

More than 20 brands, including Tom Ford, Valentino and Ferragamo, are hosting retail activations through Oct. 19 for key clients and donors. A percentage of sales will benefit the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami health system.

The effort kicked off with a festive dinner at Mother Wolf restaurant on Thursday, in collaboration with Chef Evan Funke. The night featured a silent auction with one-of-a-kind pieces and experiences.

“It was an incredible success, uniting the worlds of fashion, footwear and philanthropy for a beautiful evening at Mother Wolf dedicated to breast cancer research,” said Sandi Mines, president of the Fashion Footwear Charity Foundation and vice president of FDRA. “Seeing executives, philanthropists and doctors from the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center come together proves the power of community in the fight against cancer.”

As Miami Design District has expanded in recent years, leaders have been committed to supporting the local community and driving impact.

“Women’s health and cancer research are vital causes that deserve our collective attention and action”, said Craig Robins, President and CEO of Dacra. “Partnering with Shoes for a Cure allows us to leverage the power of fashion and philanthropy to drive real change in the community. Miami Design District is proud to stand with Sylvester, FFCF, and the many visionary brands who are using their platforms to make a difference.”

Miami marks Shoes for a Cure’s first stop this month. Next week, the initiative will continue in New York with a five-day charity shoe sale at Chelsea Market, which is taking place for the third year in a row. A kickoff event for key donors and supporters is set for Tuesday at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Shoes for a Cure, formerly Shoes on Sale, was launched by Jerome and Jodi Fisher in 1994 as a charity shoe sale in Central Park. The charity effort has raised millions for breast cancer research during the last three decades.
