The Council of Fashion Designers of America will award A$AP Rocky, the multihyphenated artist, entrepreneur and actor, as the Fashion Icon at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards, presented by Amazon Fashion.

A$AP Rocky is the creative director of Ray-Ban and Puma and has collaborated with many designer brands and been featured in their campaigns, including Bottega Veneta, Moncler, Calvin Klein, Gucci and Dior.

Rocky’s creative agency, AWGE, has entered partnerships with Marine Serre, Amina Muaddi, Selfridges, JW Anderson, MTV, among others. The brand designed by Rocky has shown at Paris Men’s Fashion Week the last two seasons. As the 2025 co-chair of the Met Gala, Rocky wore a custom AWGE suit.

Rocky’s style is defined by gender-fluid experimentation, such as his 2018 Gucci babushka headscarf and lace-adorned outfits. He often incorporates pearls, diamond earrings, skirts and historically feminine accessories into his wardrobe. The 37-year-old Harlem, N.Y.-born rapper has three children with his partner, Rihanna.

At the Cannes Film Festival this summer during a photo call for the Spike Lee film “Highest 2 Lowest,” Rocky showed off his summer-ready take on menswear modeling a crisp white suit by Miu Miu, featuring a notch lapel blazer and straight-leg trousers with a bit of slouch to them. Contrasting this was a black button-down underneath his jacket, essentially inverting the classic suit color scheme. He diverted from black and white with his brown leather Miu Miu loafers.

“A$AP Rocky is a fashion icon in the purest form…he is one of a kind. His truly original approach to fashion inspires me, and so many, to think differently,” said Thom Browne, chairman of the CFDA.

The Fashion Icon award, which began in 2010, recognizes stars who are known for their style. Iman, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams and Pharrell Williams are among those who have received the award. Rihanna accepted the Fashion Icon Award in 2014 wearing a crystallized Adam Selman “naked dress,” while Knowles-Carter selected a pinstriped Givenchy suit and Lopez wore a custom sparkly orange two-piece outfit by Ralph Lauren.

The CFDA Awards ceremony and gala dinner will take place at the American Museum of Natural History in New York on Nov. 3.

Among the special awards being given out that evening, the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Ralph Rucci. The Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert will be awarded to Cynthia Rowley. The Isabel Toledo Board of Directors’ Tribute will go to Andre Walker. The Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard will go to Sara Moonves, editor in chief of W Magazine.

The International Designer of the Year is Pieter Mulier for Alaïa. The Positive Change Award will be given to Donatella Versace for her philanthropic efforts, her advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community and her support of young talents.

In addition, designers will be vying for American Womenswear Designer of the Year, American Menswear Designer of the Year, American Accessories Designer of the Year and Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year.
