We Already Know the Trending Color of 2027

As the conversations around Mocha Mousse finally calm down, leading consumer trend forecaster WGSN and its sister company, Coloro, initiate a whole new wave of “Color of the Year” dialogue. No need to panic shop, though. This trending color isn’t predicted to kick in until…2027.

On Tuesday, WGSN and Coloro announced 2027’s Color of the Year: Luminous Blue, a rich hue that Clare Smith, senior color strategist for WGSN, described in a statement as both “mysterious” and “eccentric.”

“[It has] versatility and a broad appeal that will resonate from occasionwear to active,” she added.

Luminous Blue’s forecasted popularity stems from its alignment with interconnectedness (a trending theme going into 2027). Polarities like online and offline, nature and technology and ancient and contemporary continue to drive relevant social discourse. This results in a preference for color that “balances functionality, practicality and innovation with contrary themes of amusement, spirituality and emotion,” according to WGSN.

That said, playful and carefree shades like “Energy Orange,” “Pop Pink” and “Meadowland Green” are also predicted to be key colors for the Spring 2027 season, as a way to deal with the world’s continuous chaos and stress.

Though anything can change over the next two years (who knows what else that Orange man will throw our way), WGSN claims a 93% accuracy on insights. Meaning? Perhaps investing in a “Luminous Blue”-colored item or two is worth the purchase.
