WNBA Announces Exciting News Before Season

Women’s basketball used to be considered something of a joke, but over the last year or so, it has experienced an explosion in interest and popularity, and that explosion may just be starting.

The new WNBA season is just a few weeks away, and once again, there is plenty of excitement to go around, especially with new potential stars such as UConn’s Paige Bueckers entering the league as rookies.

This year’s All-Star game will be held in Indianapolis, the market where Caitlin Clark, last year’s rookie phenomenon, plays. The league announced on its official X account that the game has already sold out.

Clark made the All-Star team last year while leading everyone in assists and winning the Rookie of the Year award. She averaged 19.2 points and 8.4 assists a game the year after she led Iowa to the women’s national championship game and became the NCAA’s all-time leading career scorer among both women and men.

Her Hawkeyes lost in that game to LSU, which was led by Angel Reese. Reese also made the WNBA All-Star Game last year and was the runner-up in the Rookie of the Year balloting with averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game for the Chicago Sky.

During the first weekend of the 2025 WNBA season, Clark’s Fever will host Reese’s Sky. People have been talking about a rivalry brewing between the two luminaries and have even compared it to the one Magic Johnson and Larry Bird took from college into the NBA at the end of the 1970s.
