It’s a milestone moment for Princess Charlotte.
Today, the Prince and Princess of Wales released a new portrait of their second child and only daughter in honor of her 10th birthday. Taken by her mother, Kate Middleton, it shows the young princess in the wilds of Cumbria, a region in the northwest of England. She wears a camouflage jacket and backpack as she smiles into the camera. (An iPhone camera, to be specific: according to Sky News, Middleton took the photo on her Apple device.)
“Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte!” the couple wrote on Instagram.

It is an annual tradition for the Waleses to release portraits of the children on their birthday. Often, the photographs are taken by Middleton herself, lending them an air of informality and approachability. Recently, they also shared a charming portrait of Prince Louis, who turned seven years old in April. It showed the young royal smiling—his two front teeth missing.
Although it’s not all about birthday celebrations in the House of Windsor right now. Princess Charlotte’s portrait comes amid another royal news moment: Today, Prince Harry lost his battle over tax-payer funded security in the United Kingdom. In an interview, he expressed a desire to end the widening rift with the rest of his family: “I would love reconciliation,” he said. “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
Harry also referenced Prince Charles’s ongoing battle with cancer. “I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he continued. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”
