Finally, a Met Gala Where Men Understood the Assignment

Every time the First Monday in May rolls around, it’s pretty much a given that the majority of the male attendees arriving in the same black tuxedo they’ve been wearing on repeat for awards season. No judgement here — after all, a well-fitted suit is timeless — but with this year’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit’s emphasis on suiting, all eyes were on menswear ‘fits. To our delight, the men actually delivered this year.

The 2025 Met Gala’s “Tailored for You” dress code was a nod to the exhibit’s menswear focus, resulting in a sea of three-piece suits, brooches, canes, top hats and one piano backpack (we’re looking at you, André 3000). Leading the menswear charge were the night’s four co-chairs Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton and A$AP Rocky. Williams donned a pearl-encrusted Louis Vuitton suit jacket, Hamilton wore a white Wales Bonner ensemble complete with an embellished beret, Rocky went for an Awge tailored black suit paired with an umbrella while Domingo repped Valentino in a checkered blazer and polka dot scarf tie.

Other menswear standouts included Bad Bunny’s olive-colored Prada ‘fit and Burna Boy’s patterned burgundy suit and matching cape designed by Ozwald Boateng. Brooches emerged as a must-have accessory, as stars like Leon Bridges, Adrien Brody, Chance the Rapper, Caleb McLaughlin and more donned the embellishments en masse. Capes (as well as casually draped jackets) made multiple appearances — perhaps in an ode to the late André Leon Talley, whose garments are featured in the exhibit — in Jaden Smith, Cody Renard Richard and Edvin Thompson’s looks.

But it wasn’t just the men turning out strong menswear looks: Yara Shahidi, Hunter Schafer and Imaan Hammam were among some of the female attendees who aced the night’s tailoring-focused dress code. WNBA star Breanna Stewart arrived in a cream-colored suit designed by Sergio Hudson, while Ugbad Abdi embraced a dramatic paisley fur-lined cape and pin-striped trousers from Michael Kors Collection.

Now that we know the men can turn out a look, trust we’ll be expecting this level of sartorial expression moving forward.

Ahead, see some of the best menswear looks that walked the blue carpet on Monday night.
