There were a lot of power couples in attendance at the 2025 Met Gala, but director Ryan Coogler and wife Zinzi Coogler were certainly one of the hottest Hollywood duos of the night. Thanks to his buzzy new horror film, Sinners, both Ryan and Zinzi have been taking many red carpets by storm over the past few months—so, why wouldn’t the pair keep that energy going by marking their first Met Gala together?
For a more coordinated fashion moment, the couple wore custom looks by Fear of God designer Jerry Lorenzo. “I was excited to work with Jerry, because he’s at the forefront of fashion expression in our culture today,” says Ryan, while Zinzi adds, “It was absolute honor to just be thought of, and to get to see the joy and celebration of the contributions of Black artists.”
Though Ryan and Zinzi each had their own unique fashion flavors, both of their looks shared a similar intention and thoughtfulness around the exhibition’s theme, which spotlights Black dandyism. “I liked the idea of framing it as something so important to American culture,” says Ryan. “African-Americans—we’ve been a part of the fabric of this country for centuries.” Zinzi adds, “I was really excited about this year’s theme, and how it happened to coincide with the release of our film Sinners, and the themes that our film explores about the value of the art and work and the influence that Black people have had on the culture,” says Zinzi. “It is a beautiful celebration of that contribution in fashion.”
The couple’s looks served as a continuation of this spirit. For Ryan, Lorenzo designed a pale-blue suit with a traditional cummerbund. “I felt really sophisticated, but also comfortable,” says Ryan. Zinzi, meanwhile, donned a black bodycon dress with a blazer—a chic maternity moment (she is pregnant with the couple’s third child). “My favorite element was poring over how to accentuate my growing belly,” she says. “Every line, every curve was so carefully thought-through. I felt beautiful. Nothing was pinching or cinching in a way that felt uncomfortable. It was—dare I say—cozy?”
