Forsythe a strong addition to West Virginia roster build

West Virginia has gone transfer heavy in the basketball roster build to date, but the program netted a strong piece to the mix the prep ranks in West Chester (Pa.) Westtown School 2025 guard Jayden Forsythe.

Forsythe, 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, picked the Mountaineers over a long list of scholarship offers including Xavier, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Penn State, Northwestern, Wake Forest and a number of others.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect was initially committed to Xavier from September until late March when he requested his release from the Musketeers.

It’s the second consecutive season that the Mountaineers were able to net a commitment from a former Xavier signee after Jonathan Powell.

Forsythe took an official visit to West Virginia May 3-4 and committed to the basketball program a few days later. He gives head coach Ross Hodge a skilled shooter with all of his eligibility still in-tact.

Forsythe is considered one of the best three-point shooters in the 2025 class and has the number to support that claim. He was the only player on the EYBL circuit to shoot over 40-percent from three-point range on 75+ three-point attempts.

He averaged 9.5 points per game for Team Final at the Peach Jam this past summer, while shooting 39 percent from three-point range.

The skilled guard averaged 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 38-percent from three during his senior season.

A strong spot up shooter, Forsythe also displays the ability to hit shots off a lateral dribble and can shoot the ball off screens although that is still a developing part of his game. That makes him a good fit for a roster where he isn’t going to be asked to carry the load offensively to start his career.

Forsythe already possesses a college-ready body and will be able to be used as an effective shooter that can space the floor for the Mountaineers when he is in the game. He is a willing passer and plays the game beyond his years, which should allow him to carve out a role as a freshman.

It’s easy to compare him to Powell given their size and skill set, but Forysthe is his own player and is an exciting addition given his size and skill set.

West Virginia still has work to do with the roster but adding Forsythe certainly is a major building block not only for this coming season but in the future as well.
