The Tennessee Volunteers have had their fair share of surprises throughout the course of the offseason. First, it was the Nico Iamaleava situation. Losing their starting quarterback this late in the offseason was a major surprise.
Now, it has been reported that former Tennessee standout wide receiver Bru McCoy is retiring from the game of football.
McCoy was expected to be a potential pick in the 2025 NFL draft. When that didn't happen, there were questions about his future. Those questions have now been answered.
According to a report from Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, McCoy has decided to medically retire from the game.
"Former Tennessee WR Bru McCoy is medically retiring from football," Schultz wrote on X. "My understanding is it was made known during the draft not to select him — and now we know the reason why. McCoy was high school teammates with Bryce Young at Mater Dei, where he was the U.S. Army Player of the Year."

While McCoy started his college football career with the USC Trojans, he transferred to the Volunteers after that one year and played his final three seasons with Tennessee.
Standing in at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, McCoy had great size to go along with his athletic ability. He caught 129 passes throughout his college career for 1,592 yards and nine touchdowns.
Coming out of high school in the 2019 recruiting class, McCoy was a five-star prospect who was labeled as a linebacker. He was the No. 9 overall player in the nation that year, according to 247 Sports.
