The Black Designers, Stylists, Costume Designers and More Who Brought the 2025 Met Gala to Life

The 2025 Met Gala has come and gone, but the people who made it what it was — particularly the many Black creatives who were given the well-deserved opportunity to display their talent on fashion’s biggest night — are still worth celebrating.

Beyond the record-breaking $31 million it raised for the Costume Institute, this year’s event was exceptional for its massive and diverse roster of attendees, the genuine excitement and interest around its theme (“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”) and, frankly, what it meant for people of color. There was a depth to this Met Gala that most people involved seemed to actually understand (or at least tried to — what a relief). We saw new efforts by industry gatekeepers, at a famously exclusive event, to include Black celebrities, platform Black creatives — be they designers, stylists, artists or otherwise — or to imbue their garments with thoughtful references to Black history (ideally not on the crotch).

The hope, after this undeniably successful evening, is that these creatives continue to be a massive presence on fashion’s biggest stages, regardless of a particular party’s theme (or a particular political party’s backwards ideology regarding diversity, equity and inclusion).

Below is a (probably incomplete) list of the Black designers, stylists, costume designers and more who brought the 2025 Met Gala to life. Follow them on Instagram, buy their stuff, hire them and watch them thrive.
