A.J. Brown quoted Jalen Hurts during the Ole Miss Commencement Speech

Eagles wide receiver and former Rebels star A.J. Brown delivered words of encouragement at the University of Mississippi’s 172nd annual Commencement on May 10.

A.J. Brown is a captain, motivational speaker, and Super Bowl winner who now delivers excellent commencement speeches after being asked to represent his alma mater.

Philadelphia’s All-Pro wide receiver delivered encouragement at the University of Mississippi’s 172nd annual Commencement on Saturday afternoon. The University graduated more than 5,500 students at its 172nd Commencement exercises Saturday morning (May 10) in a packed Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss.

Brown even borrowed a quote from Super Bowl MVP and teammate Jalen Hurts.

It has been said that “one never graduates from Ole Miss.” Super Bowl champion, philanthropist and former Ole Miss standout wide receiver A.J. Brown lived that saying when he returned to the “spot that ever calls” as Commencement speaker.

Brown has faced off against some of the most fearsome linebackers and safeties in both the SEC and NFL, and he’s competed on football’s biggest stage. Still, he told the graduates that delivering the keynote speech was intense.

“Standing here, trying to impress your grandma, your professors and your group chat all at once – this might be the real pressure,” he said.

Brown emboldened graduates to stay focused on their future and be their own playmakers with three simple rules:

  • Run your own route. Comparison kills potential faster than failure ever could.
  • Watch film on Self-awareness is a form of leadership.
  • Think bigger than today. Real greatness is built when nobody’s watching.

During his Ole Miss career, Brown broke multiple school records, including being the school’s all-time leading receiver with 2,984 receiving yards. He earned All-American and All-SEC honors during his record-setting career for the Rebels.

Brown broke single-season school records with 85 receptions for over 1,300 yards in 2018.

With the Eagles, Brown has played in two Super Bowls with Philadelphia, including this year’s victory. He has also been selected for the Pro Bowl three times and named second-team All-Pro three times.
