U.S. to cut tariff on small China parcels
After the U.S. and China agreed to a 90-day pause in their trade war, the U.S. announced it is slashing the tariff on small parcels sent from mainland China and Hong Kong to the U.S. from 120% to 54%. Donald Trump brought in the levy to close the “de minimis” loophole, which allowed goods valued at up to $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free and with nominal inspections. (This loophole fueled the rise of Shein and Temu.) Trump imposed a tax of 120% on any package coming from China or a flat fee of $100 from May 2. That tariff will fall to 54% from Wednesday, and the alternative flat fee of $100 will remain, but it will not rise to $200 in June as planned. {The Guardian}

To fuel cross-discovery, each brand will feature select products from the other on their respective websites. “This isn’t about restructuring — it’s about scaling,” Andie Founder Melanie Travis said in a statement. “We’ve spent eight years building a lean, powerful operation at Andie. Now we get to apply that model to more than just swim. It’s the next chapter, and I couldn’t be more excited.” {Fashionista inbox}

What Cannes’ new rules mean for stylists
On Monday, a day before the Cannes Film Festival opened, organizers updated the dress code to stop anyone wearing sheer clothing or large trains from walking the carpet at this year’s event. This last-minute rule has left stylists scrambling to adapt. The banning of large trains and skirts is meant to speed up the flow of red carpet arrivals, but sheer dresses aren’t allowed on account of “decency.” These rule changes could hurt brands who’ve planned voluminous or sheer looks for this year’s event, and it’s especially tricky for young designers who may have created a look for the carpet and aren’t able to financially (and logistically) support a last-minute change. {Vogue Business/paywalled}
