Paige Bueckers' First Official WNBA Basket Sparks Excitement

The Dallas Wings kicked off their 2025 WNBA season Friday night at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, in front of a sold-out crowd.

This opening-night matchup marked one of the most anticipated season starts in franchise history, driven largely by the arrival of No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.

A viral clip on X captured Bueckers’ first official points in the league.

Early in the first quarter, she brought the ball up the court, executed a crossover at the top of the arc, then drove through the lane for a floater that rattled out, but Bueckers secured her own rebound and converted the putback for her first two WNBA points.

Fans on social media quickly reacted.

One fan responded, “Wow what a time,” to which another replied, “So many more to go! 🎉”

Another commenter said, “Welcome to the W Paige! Go Wings!,” which was met by one other user with, “She’s just getting started, and I’m already here for it. Let’s go, Paige!”

One fan commented, “Paige BUCKETS 🪣”, while another user simply left it at “MVP”.

Bueckers enters the WNBA after a decorated career at UConn.

Over her five-year collegiate tenure, she became a three-time unanimous first-team All-American and swept major national player-of-the-year honors in 2021, including the Naismith College Player of the Year, AP Player of the Year, USBWA National Player of the Year, and the John R. Wooden Award.

Bueckers also captured three Big East Player of the Year trophies (2021, 2024, 2025) and was twice named the Nancy Lieberman Award winner as the nation’s top point guard.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Wings are aiming to rebound from a difficult 2024 campaign.

Last season, the team finished with a 9-31 record, placing fifth in the Western Conference and eleventh overall, and marking their worst winning percentage (.225) since 2011.

If these opening moments are any indication, Bueckers will be a central figure in defining what the Wings can achieve in 2025.
