Gadsden-area boys and girls athlete of the week voting for May 12-16


It’s time to vote for the Gadsden area boys and girls athlete of the week from action from May 12 to 16.

That stretch includes the the state baseball and softball tournaments, the final day of the AHSAA soccer tournament and the AHSAA golf tournament.

Last week on the boys side, in one of the closer results of the year Collinsville’s Aaron Herrera’s three goals in two state tournament games earned him 50% of the vote, barely over Camren Thompson who had six goals, including a final four hat trick who earned 46% of the vote.

On the girls side, West End’s Kennedi Nix had 55% of the 22,000 votes. She had eight RBIs in three games to overcome Hannah Maddox’s 44% of the vote after she had 19 saves in two games for Southside.

Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers of the week before. To nominate a top performer, have your coach email sports@gadsdentimes.com.

Voting will last until Thursday. Votes will not be accepted via email, only in the polls below. With it being the final poll of the year, there will be one combined poll.

  • Plainview’s Piper Anderson – CG, 6 K’s, one hit
  • Southside’s Hayes Cosby – 4 saves in state title shutout win
  • West End’s – Emma Franklin – CG, 6 K’s with 1 run allowed on 3 hits
  • Westbrook Christian’s JD Berndt – 4-over-148 as Warriors placed second
