
David Mallett is expanding his footprint in New York City.
On Monday, the celebrity stylist, salon owner and brand founder known for his effortless Parisian approach to hair is opening his second outpost in New York City. The eight chair salon is located at WSA, a 31-story office building that has become a bit of a hot spot among Manhattan’s finest. Fashion designers have set up shop in the building; a slew of brands have moved their offices there; it’s home to the wellness and beauty outpost Water Lounge, and celebrities have flocked to the building for exclusive parties.
Now WSA-goers can have their hair done there, too. Mallett will be at the new salon for the first week, thereafter he plans to spend his time 50-50 between New York and Paris, where he also operates. Mallett will maintain his first location at The Webster in New York.
“When we first moved to New York [and] we opened the shop, we never imagined it would be so successful,” Mallett said. “I will never, ever leave The Webster. I love being there, but we needed another space.”
Mallett was recommended to visit WSA by his client Gabriella Khalil, who is also the building’s creative director, and his business partner and managing director of David Mallett NY Mario Casarella, who had both been discussing the opportunity to open up shop in the building. Casarella and Mallett have been working together for 20 years.
Upon visiting the space, Mallett was immediately hooked.
“We went into this kind of ’80s Talking Heads building, and we went up to the 23rd floor, and I saw the room with green marble and the corner where I’m cutting hair, and I said, ‘We’re in,’ and we said yes on the spot,” he recalled.
He continued: “All the stars were aligned. There was nothing wrong, and the view from where I cut hair is the best view of anywhere I work in the world.”

As Mallett designs each of his salons from the ground up, sourcing furniture and decor, each has its own vibe. He called this one “polished.” “It reminds me very much of the luxury spaces in Southeast Asia in the ’80s, when I was a young boy,” he said. “When I arrived in France, I loved antique everything. Now I’ve become much more interested in modern furniture.”
On curating the space, Mallett said: “Everything has a history. I’ve spent the last four months, me and Mario, between Paris and New York FaceTiming each other on each object, each table, each lounge, each lamp, each desk.”

At the salon, Mallett will offer all of his signature treatments including bespoke cuts, colors, blowouts, his deep repairing Tokio treatment using keratin, proteins, masks and more, the relaxing hot oil head massage and manicures from the late Karl Lagerfeld’s personal manicurist. The menu has been carefully developed by Mallett and Casarella, who also organized the staff.
“My idea of luxury as such is that everything should be made to measure. It’s very much about the connection you have with the client,“ Mallett said.
