Having begun her modeling career at the age of 12 before going on to work as a television actor, Denise Vasi knows the importance of a long-lasting lip color. But 17-hour days on set often left her lips feeling dry and cracked, so she set out to create Maed, a beauty brand offering a three-step ritual for smooth, hydrated lips.

“We are a makeup brand, but with a skin-care approach,” Vasi told Steph Saltzman on The Fashionista Network. (Watch it here!) “All of our products have real skin-care ingredients in them, so that’s really where our differentiator is.”

Vasi built her career as a model for top beauty brands like Bobbi Brown, MAC, L’Oréal and Kevyn Aucoin before transitioning into acting and starring in VH1’s “Single Ladies.” She started to conceptualize Maed in 2019, before the beauty industry went all-in on cross-category “skinification,” and officially launched the lip-care brand in 2024. Today, Maed formulates its lip-care products with plant stem cells, biomimetic peptides and ceramides to strengthen the lip barrier over time.

The brand also offers its signature red liquid lip color in a universal shade designed for all skin tones. “A lot of people talk about the blue and the orange, but the secret sauce is really the violets, the purples,” Vasi shared, regarding achieving the perfect red hue.

Vasi has spent most of her life in the spotlight, and she has also found success on social media by building a dedicated online community. In the full interview, she expanded on the importance of self care and scheduling time for yourself, being raised by “a village of incredible women” as well as how she approaches growing and fostering her community.

Vasi also shared her future goals of expanding Maed’s lip-care offerings, offered her best advice for those looking to pursue their dreams and teased an August announcement regarding new launches.
