Sixers remain committed to getting younger amid trade back rumors

The 2025 NBA draft is a little less than a month away and the Philadelphia 76ers have the No. 3 pick after a tough 2024-25 season. The Sixers were expected to contend for a title, but instead were dealt with a ton of injuries and it derailed any chance of having success.

With that No. 3 selection, the Sixers can go in a number of directions. They can make a selection and bring in a top talent in this draft whether it’s Ace Bailey or VJ Edgecombe or somebody else they have in mind. Or, the Sixers can trade down in order to bring in a more established player.

One shouldn’t expect a trade–or if they do make one, it won’t be to go down too far. Per Marc Stein via his Substack:

If there is a trade in Philadelphia’s future involving the No. 3 pick in the draft, don’t expect the 76ers to move down very far on the 2025 draft board.

League sources maintain that the Sixers are determined to add a dynamic young talent to their core after the tremendous fortune they enjoyed in the May 12 draft lottery.

The Sixers need to get younger. They have an aging supporting cast around their star trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. Adding a dynamic player like Bailey or the aforementioned names would be a huge help to the overall roster and help Philadelphia move back in the right direction.

The Sixers could also call up the Brooklyn Nets and inquire about the No. 8 pick and possibly Cam Johnson. In that scenario, Philadelphia would be able to acquire a legitimate shooter in Johnson while also being able to land a top 10 player in this deep and talented draft. That is something of a win-win scenario. Either way, there are a lot of things to consider.
