🇮🇹 Roma fight back to earn draw with Lazio in fierce derby

Roma fought back to claim a 1-1 draw with Lazio in a fierce Eternal City derby at the Stadio Olimpico.

Scorers: Soulé 69′; Romagnoli 47′

As has become the norm in this fierce rivalry, the game was played with plenty of tension from the outset, with few clear cut chances for either side.

Lazio had the better of it, with Alessio Romagnoli forcing a brilliant save from Mile Svilar with a close-range header from a free-kick.

The same duo were involved in the opener, which came just two minutes after the break. Luca Pellegrini whipped in a dangerous free-kick from the left which Romagnoli connected with, sending a bullet header past Svilar.

The 29-year-old started his career on the other side of the Eternal City divide, making 13 first team appearances after coming through their academy, but is very much a Lazio man these days.

Roma searched for a way back into the contest, with Gianluca Mancini testing Christos Mandas with a strong header of his own.

They continued to search for a way back into the contest, and eventually grabbed an equaliser with little over 20 minutes remaining courtesy of a stunning Matías Soulé strike.

Alexis Saelemaekers teed up the Argentine just outside the box, who curled home in some style, seeing his shot bounce off the bar and just over the line, sparking wild celebrations.

Both sides pushed for a winner but a draw was fair which leaves them just outside the top four, with Lazio three points off Juventus, and Roma a further two back.
