Tri-Valley secures District 11 1A title with shut out win over Marian – Pottsville Republican Herald


PINE GROVE — Tri-Valley is on top once again.

Tri-Valley’s softball team secured its fifth straight District 11 Class A title as they took down Marian, 15-0, Tuesday.

“It feels amazing,” said senior pitcher Kora Rodichok. “I am very happy our team pulled through.”

Rodichok was lights out, recording 10 strikeouts. The Desales University signee also went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs. The Lady Dawgs as a whole recorded 15 hits in the win. Led by Cassi Snyder and Olivia Witmer who had three each.

Snyder got it started with a bunt single. Snyder got to second on a steal. Maddy Schwalm came up next and hit an RBI double to make it 1-0. Olivia Witmer drove in a run on an error  to make it 2-0. After a Savanah Stiely single. Lydia Rodichok hit an RBI single. Kora Ridichok closed the inning out with a two-run RBI double to make it 5-0.

“I am proud of the girls,” said Tri-Valley’s coach Marty Shade. “They came out swinging and put pressure on them.”

Tri-Valley didn’t cool down in the bottom of the third inning as they scored seven runs to break away.

Stiely drove in a run on an error, Kora Rodichok hit a two-run single, Snyder and Alina Leonard added RBI singles and Witmer hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 12-0 as Tri-Valley smelled victory.

“The girls did good and were fired up to play,” said Shade. “A lot of coaches tell you to get that first pitch to hit. So our girls were waiting on it.”

Rodichok kept the Fillies scoreless in the top of the fourth inning after forcing a pop out and two strikeouts to give her 10 in the game. Marian just recorded one hit off of Rodichok throughout the game.

“My rising ball was working really well and we were all on the same line today,” said Rodichok. “ So it really just all worked out well.”

Tri-Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to earn the win in five innings.

Emma Stehr and Snyder got on base with back-to-back singles. Leonard followed with a walk to load the bases. Schwalm came up next and drove in  two runs  on an error to make it 14-0. Witmer closed it out with an RBI single to make it 15-0 securing the title for the Lady Dawgs.

Tri-Valley will gear up next for the PIAA 1A tournament with the opponent, time and place to be announced.

“We are going to take it one game at  a time,” said Shade. “In a one game tournament anything can happen.”
